The latest High Point University poll has President Barack Obama and presumptive GOP candidate Mitt Romney in a dead heat in North Carolina.

The survey shows the candidates tied at 43 percent.

"This has been a closely watched state from early on in the 2012 election cycle," said Martin Kifer, director of the HPU Poll, in a statement. "The new poll shows that North Carolina is still a toss-up state in the presidential election."
