Security Concerns Raised Ahead of Public Fracking Meeting
LEE COUNTY—The commissioner leading Friday night’s public hearing on fracking rules is raising concerns about the security for the event.
He said the hearing could be canceled if the issue isn’t resolved.
Mining and Energy Commission member Jim Womack said the Lee County sheriff’s office will not provide security for the hearing–saying it falls under city police.
However Sanford police say they are unable to provide officers.
Womack said he expects at least 500 people to attend Friday night’s meeting and he said he needs to ensure their safety.
One possible solution includes bringing in capitol police officers from Raleigh.
